After The Rain

5 Sep

She used to love to write. Poetry and short stories were her outlet, but that was before the storm.

A private message; someones “friendly” criticism.  “Embarrassing drivel ” they said…

The floodgate of self – doubt washed away her confidence leaving a path of devastation. She folded in upon herself and waited to die.

But..unexpectedly .. the sun came out one day. A beautiful warming glow.

Dare she write again ? The hurt still so evident. It will never be like before; reconstruction is , after all, just masking the damage hidden below. Scars never heal but they remind us, not of the pain inflicted, but of the strength it took to heal after the rain.171-09-september-4th-2016

Nice metaphor from the prompt. I hope it wasn’t a story from personal experience? We should never let the critics stop us from writing! Good work.

I agree Iain. If we let the critics win, we will never do anything. Even the top authors receive criticism, even laughing off “destructive” criticism

I like the story, and like Iain, I hope it isn’t personal. If it is, then remember for all the people writing bad reviews, there are people who like it and don’t write good reviews.

I have a friend who writes, and every one of her books has received bad reviews but it didn’t stop her writing.

I like the way you used metaphors to describe the emotions.

So glad this character wrote again. If she is a writer, she needs to fulfill that need to write and Ina sense, purge her old fears and feelings. Great take!
