Two girls stagger through the open door barely noticing the broken branches beneath their bare feel. They shiver in unison, soaked to the skin, their hair and nightgowns caked with mud. The youngest, wide-eyed and frightened, clings to her sister.

“It’s going to be o.k. Cathy” the eldest soothes ” Mama said if we ever got separated that we were to wait at this old chapel.”

The girls are startled as a man approaches from the ruins of the altar.

“Don’t be afraid” says the devil as he slyly tucks his tail behind him “I have been waiting for you..”

I think Mama gave bad advice… or perhaps she knows something her girls don’t. Excellent piece of work – atmospheric and suitably creepy. Splendid.

A bad case of “Out of the frying pan and into the fire”
I was caught unaware with this one. Well done!

There are some days that just don’t go as you hoped they would – unless of course you’re the devil!
An ingenious take on the prompt. A lot of story in just 100 words.

Whoa. Didn’t see that coming. I loved the description in the first paragraph. You gave us a lot in a few words and made easy for me to see these girls:~)
