in progress

For : Sunday Photo Fiction: February 2nd 2014

This is the Beagle 2. Photograph taken in 2009 at the National Space Centre, Leicester, UK. This was a machine designed to be sent to Mars and to use the instruments on board to send data back to Earth as to the composition and makeup of the red Planet. Of course, it could be anything at all for your fiction piece, it does not have to be the Beagle 2

The office of Intergalactic research received notice that there would be a full inspection of their premises by the government body that controlled their budget. Apparently there was some question as to how their quarter of a million had been spent. Thus far the only thing that had been forwarded to “the powers that be”, was a drawing of the proposed Mars lander. With less than twenty-four hours to go, the laboratory was in a full panic. They were expected to have at the very least, a prototype to show the visiting dignitaries. What they had to show was nada..rien..nothing.

The lead scientist, Dr. Brainstorm suddenly had an idea. Informing his staff that he had an errand to run, he hurried home, returning an hour later with the sought-after machine.

Everyone gawked in amazement.

“Where did you get it?”

“Bloody brilliant”

They walked around it oohing and ahhing

“Damn perfect”

“Yes it is” replied the good Doctor “just got to make  sure I get my wife’s vacuüm cleaner back together before she discovers half  of the pieces are missing”

Now, unless his wife owns the Hoover Super Hero robotic vacuum cleaner, he’s not going to fool them However, if it is, they’re going to increase his budget and send it into space 😉

I can see the presentation. Everyone making encouraging comments about the device like in the story, The Emperor’s New Clothes and some nerd will speak up, “What is wrong with you people, I think that’s a vacuum.”
