Ligo Haibun Challenge – 27/09 – 03/10

The world is mud-luscious and puddle-wonderful  – E.E. Cummings

Jade is your typical five-year old. She loves music and dancing, Saturday morning cartoons, and her dog. In her first months of life she needed to be resuscitated several times, she would simply forget to breathe. She learned to walk when she was almost three and there is no slowing her down now. Everything is an adventure. When it became obvious that she would never be vocal enough to be understood, she and her family all learned sign language.

One day when she was under the care of her grandmother she was playing in a mud puddle. A  child who appeared a little older, sat down beside her. “My mom says you’re not normal” he said. Jade looked at him with her beautiful brown eyes, reached over and gave him a big bear hug. They have been best friends ever since.

Nothing better than acceptance for someone who is not considered ‘normal’. Lovely narrative

Hello Patricia. Thank you for this one. Your haibun “moves” the reader eloquently with simplistic, yet vivid emotions. Perfect accompanying haiku! 🙂
