Clowns with broken hearts

cavorting in circus rings

wearing painted smiles

Barnum and Bailey

exploiting the defenceless

the show must go on

What can I say Patricia … your haiku is very well penned and leaves me in awe. Clowns are my favorite, but I think they hide their sadness behind their painted faces. Thank you for sharing.

A Clown’s heart breaks when we realise that we are silly than they are. No wonder they are the inspiration for so many horror stories 🙂

Those sad clowns, how awful to live with a painted smile. Love it.

Painted smiles — prevent the true faces of the clowns to shine through … only the eyes (if you could view his eyes long enough) would reveal the emotion behind the smiles.

It’s certainly a hard life for the clowns! They’re sad but are expected to make others laugh. Nicely Pat!
