    “Bitter winds churn the waters”

    That’s a great line.

Mine came from western Canada, yours from the east.

Very moving in only 3 lines, but my Lab loved to play in the snow when we lived in Denver.

Labrador is the distinct, northerly region of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It comprises the mainland portion of the province, separated from the island of Newfoundland by the Strait of Belle Isle. It is the largest and northernmost geographical region in Atlantic Canada.

Being a Californian I thought of the Labrador dog and then a flicker of memory came to me that Labrador was a place and so I looked it up. So I really like the play on the word Labrador. Now whether it’s intentional or not it came out great.

I’m even more cold reading your haiku! Brr! Great job.

We have a few of these each winter – my dad was a commercial fisherman and the ‘bitter winds….’ line reminded me of the worry I felt for him out on the raging seas!

In Stockholm a northeastern wind blasting in from Russia would make us shiver too. Thank you

Northeastern wind here too … feels very cold. Nicely composed haiku Patricia.
